【Reflections on GITEX & North Star Dubai 2025】

From October 14th, Dubai hosted one of the world’s largest tech conferences — GITEX and North Star — for an exciting week of innovation and connection.
I joined part of the event and had the opportunity to meet Japanese entrepreneurs who participated in the J-Startup pitch session.

What impressed me most was the strong presence of China and South Korea.
In sponsorship scale, China was outstanding, while Korean companies stood out in the exhibition booths.
Notably, the national AI project “G42” based in Abu Dhabi is led by a Chinese-born, US-educated CEO.
Similarly, the president of the AI-specialized university “MBZUAI ” also has a Chinese-American background.
I strongly felt the global network and leadership of Chinese professionals in the fields of AI and data center development.

Indeed, the talent power of Chinese professionals is remarkable.
Some of my former students were already fluent in Chinese, English, and Japanese by the time they graduated from high school, ready to study or work abroad.
Given the population size and competitive environment, it’s natural that many find their path globally.

Then, how about Japanese companies and professionals?
I’m not pessimistic — quite the opposite.
Many Japanese companies have earned long-term trust in the UAE, contributing steadily to social infrastructure and B2B industries.
Their impact may not always be visible, but it’s solid — and I feel proud of that.

Cutting-edge technologies draw attention, but whether they truly contribute to society remains to be seen.
Japanese companies, on the other hand, create value by supporting society quietly yet reliably.
That’s why the UAE has respect for Japan — this steadfastness is Japan’s true strength.

Recently, I read “Why Don’t You Learn?” by Kotaro Tamura, and I deeply resonated with his perspective.
It reminded me that Japan’s strength lies not in flashiness, but in steady, grounded knowledge and integrity — something truly rare in the world.

Going forward, I hope to continue observing and contributing to the “co-creation” (not competition) between Asia and the UAE,
and to discover new points where each region’s unique strengths can shine together.
